1. Stagecoach is the film that revitalized the western genre of movies, but that doesn’t mean I will start to like westerns, but I did appreciate this film by John Ford. It wasn’t just a tale about rival cowboys; it was more of a character study and how our perceptions of certain people could be misinterpreted. The director, John Ford, did not want to make this film at first because he explained that it could ruin his career. When all was said and done, Stagecoach became a hit and was a prime example of how to focus more on the development of the characters and twist our thoughts that would assume certain people should act and made it clear that society tarnished by stereotypes.
3. This page in relation to the movie shows that the true villain is the banker because he blatantly steals from the people. He feels that he is able to do whatever he wants and makes it apparent the no one, not even the government, should stick their nose in the businesses of its own country. He’s a representation of how even today, there are companies that are greedy and start to only worry about themselves and making money rather than supporting the people who make them who they are. In many ways, John Ford is right about how society really is.
4. Stagecoach is a metaphor for society, the powerpoint says, and I believe it. What this movie really made me realize is that even though a person could be associated with what society considers bad, can be a good person deep down. It’s also difficult to get other people to realize you’re a good person when all you can do is be associated with the negative aspects of your life. Walking out after watching that movie made me look at people differently, especially those who have been to my high school that I haven’t felt highly of.
In the beginning of the film, it’s apparent that the people who are considered good in society think they’re above everyone else and deserve the best while the others they can care less about. The ones that have problems, like the doctors alcoholism, are treated poorly from the others, but have their hearts in the right place. Throughout the movie, there is a shift in the mood to make you hate the ones that are regarded as nice and make you admire the decisions and mindset of those who are not. Such an appropriate movie considering that there is a movement going on in our country that shows the people disagree with the ones that have the money and want to be able to change the future for our next generation.
